EARTH HOUR

Hello hello to all you lovely people out there!

It's almost the end of the week and I'm sure that everyone is looking forward to the weekend. Parties, weddings, late night movies, family-time, weekend brunches, aaaaaaannddd EARTH HOUR!

Yep, 31st March (this Saturday) is the day to show your support for Mother Nature by switching off all essential lights in your home or office for an hour, starting from 8.30pm to 9.30pm. 

Some might find it pointless since the energy-wasting cycle will start as soon as the hour is up, but the whole idea isn't to save as much energy as you could but to take the opportunity to reflect on ways you and your family could reduce your carbon footprint and make commitment to ongoing change that reduces your impact on the environment. 

So get your candles ready and lighters ready, and show your support by being part of this global event. Peace out!

Careers Fair 2012 @ University of Nottingham Malaysia Campus

The GRADUAN team made their first ever appearance at University of Nottingham Malaysia Campus last Wednesday, a feat for Nurul (our Editorial Coordinator) as she has never driven all the way to Semenyih before. She has horrible navigation skills by the way so the fact that she didn't end up in a ditch is definitely an achievement! YAY FOR HER *clap clap*.

The fair was held at the Great Hall from 10am-4pm and it was estimated that more than half of the students on campus were present. That might not sound much but trust me, the campus is HUGE. The career fair committee members were very helpful and assisted us every step of the way. THANKS GUYS! Hope to we get the chance to work together again soon!

Career Path 2012 @ Universiti Malaya

We were thrilled to be able to participate in UM's Career Path 2012 (CP2012) with our newly published GRADUAN 2012! It was a proud moment for us when students and lecturers alike commended on GRADUAN's new look and it felt great to just mix around with the students and introduce this year's publication to them.

The fair was held for 3 days starting from 20th to 22nd March and the whole team had such a great time. Our friends from Teach for Malaysia and MMU also joined in the fun and helped us tremendously in handing out the books.

If you happened to be in Putrajaya last weekend, I bet you saw at least one or two multi-coloured hot air balloons in the sky. Why you ask? Well, last week happens to be the 4th Putrajaya International Hot Air Balloon Fiesta, a 4-day event from 15 - 18 March 2012, 7am to 9pm.

The event was held at Monumen Alaf Baru, Precint 2 in Putrajaya and showcased all sorts of hot air balloons - from the average shape to ones you didn't even think to see floating up in the sky!

This home grown event gained interest from all around Malaysia as well as neighbouring countries. Most of the hot air balloons had their nation's flag tied to the side so it was pretty easy to identify where they were from.

The countries that participated this year were Belgium, France, Germany, India, Netherlands, New Zealand, Switzerland, Thailand, USA, and Vietnam.

Malaysia's very own participation was from Kedah Darul Aman, piloted by En Mohd Sobri.

If you missed your chance to see them in action, be sure to mark your calendar for next year's fiesta!

International Women's Day 2012

Did you guys know that International Women's Day (IWD) is an official holiday in Afghanistan, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Burkina Faso, Cambodia, China (for women only), Cuba, Georgia, Guinea-Bissau, Eritrea, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Laos, Madagascar (for women only), Moldova, Mongolia, Montenegro, Nepal (for women only), Russia, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Uganda, Ukraine, Uzbekistan, Vietnam and Zambia? I bet you guys didn't even have a clue! Not only that, in some countries IWD has the same status as Mother's Day and is regarded as equally important :)

As much as we'd love another reason for a public holiday, the GRADUAN Team was thrilled to be given the privilege to join the International Women's Day 2012 Celebration at MMU Cyberjaya. The celebration was held at the Tun Chancellor Hall and was inaugurated by YB Senator Dato' Sri Shahrizat Abdul Jalil - definitely an inspirational figure to all women in Malaysia.

We're baaaaaaaaaack!

Hi guys!!! We apologise for the long hiatus. February was a crazy month for the editorial team as we were all focused on this year's issue of the GRADUAN Series. It was definitely a work of blood, sweat, tears, and murukku (for some reason the team functions better when there's a tub of murukku in the office). But hey, it was all worth it. We're still alive and kicking (and a little bit fat from the murukku-munching) and we definitely can't wait to hit the career fairs with the 2012 Series. We hope that you'll enjoy the "surprise" that we have in store for you. Make sure to grab a copy of the GRADUAN 2012 Series at the next education / career fairs!
